Counseling
Services
Supportive counseling services are
available for students at LDW and AMS.
Mrs. Beverly Stoskus, the guidance
counselor at A.M.S., is joined by Mrs.
Katie O'Neal who is the part-time
guidance counselor at L.D.W.. Mrs.
Stoskus and Mrs. O’Neal provide
individual and small group counseling
and classroom lessons. They serve on
the district crisis committee and are
available to consult with parents and
staff.
Mrs. Stoskus and Mrs. O’Neal coordinate
building level Intervention and Referral
Services (I&RS) that support students
struggling academically, behaviorally,
or emotionally.
The goals of the guidance program are to
support the 21st Century Life
& Careers Curriculum. The guidance
program supports the academic mission of
our district. We will be concentrating
on social and emotional learning,
teaching about diversity, career
exploration, anger management, problem
solving and critical thinking skills.
The goals will be covered throughout the
school year in the classroom through
guidance lessons and activities. Mrs.
O'Neal and Mrs. Stoskus work together to
implement a school wide program aimed at
building positive social relationships
while reducing bullying.
Individual Counseling
Counseling is developmental and is
designed to help students develop an
understanding of themselves or others,
define goals, and resolve conflict.
Small Group Counseling
Sometimes students who share a common
concern find it helpful to meet together
to share ideas and support. Possible
group topics are Grief, Divorce or
Family Change, Social Skills,
Friendship, Drugs / Alcohol Prevention,
Violence Prevention, Problem-Solving,
Anger, Study Skills, Career Exploration,
and Classroom Issues.
Mrs. O'Neal and Mrs. Stoskus work
together to implement a school wide
program aimed at building positive
social relationships while reducing
bullying.
Classroom Lessons
Classroom lessons are designed to
instruct students on character
development, resolve conflicts &
problems, feelings, and how to stay
calm. Students learn through stories,
questions and answers, role-playing,
cooperative learning, short video-clips,
and the Smartboard.
Parent University
Parent University is an opportunity for
parents to gather at school to learn
about a variety of parenting topics.
The goal of the Parent University is to
partner with families to offer
information that supports positive
development and relationships. During
the school year classes are held on
topics of interest to parents. Mrs.
Stoskus and Mrs. O’Neal conduct the
classes and may also invite local
guests.
